Privacy policy

This explains what Tessou stores about you, why, who helps us run it, and how to see or delete your data. Tessou is run by Elias Salim Jabbie, who is responsible for your data (the “data controller” under the GDPR). Questions: eliasjabbie5@gmail.com.
What we store
- Your Google account basics: name, email address and profile photo, when you sign in with Google. We never see your Google password.
- Your profile: username, city, badges, who invited you and which invite code you used, when you joined and last signed in.
- Your taste: the interests you pick when you join and your ratings of events (Loved it / It was OK / Skip it). Both are private to you.
- Your map: events, places and your own spots you save, with their status, your notes and your photos. Your map (Want to go, Been and Loved) is shown on your profile to other members. If you switch on “Private profile” in Settings (the cogwheel on your profile), only your followers can see your map, pictures, reviews list and events you went to, and new people have to send a follow request that you accept or decline; everyone else sees a lock. Followers you already had stay. Your own spots are only shown to people you follow. Our developers also see the name, address and location of your own spots and your username, so good ones can be added to the public map; they never see your notes or photos. Notes are always private to you. Photos on a spot are shown with your map (and in Pictures on your profile) when “Show these photos on my profile” is on for that spot; on your own spots only people you follow see them. You can switch it off per spot or delete a photo at any time.
- Your age range (optional): if you pick one (18–20, 21–24, 25–29, 30–34 or 35+), we keep the range, never your birth date. It is never shown on your profile or to other members, and it is only used in totals (see “Statistics” below). You can change it or remove it any time in Settings under “Your age”.
- Who you follow: the members you follow and who follows you. Only you and the other person can see a follow. Following each other makes you friends.
- What other members see: your username, name, profile photo, badge, bio, follower counts and when you joined. Members can find you by name or username in search. A profile picture you upload is stored as an image link, like your Google photo, and is deleted when you delete your account. Nobody else sees your email, interests or ratings.
- Reviews and pictures: star ratings and short reviews you post on events and places, and photos you add to a place, are shown to all members with your username. You can edit or delete them at any time. Places you follow are private to you. “Events I went to” on your profile is public unless you set it to Only me or make your profile private.
- Blocks and reports: who you block (only you see it) and reports you send (what you reported, why, and a copy of it at that moment). Only our developers see reports; the person reported is never told who reported them.
- Messages: direct messages you send and receive, and when they were read. Only you and the other person can read them. You can delete messages you sent; all your messages are deleted with your account.
- “I'm going”: events you say you're going to. Everyone sees the number going. Your name shows in the list to members who can see your profile (everyone if it's public, your followers if it's private), and friends may get a notification. The list of events you're going to on your profile is only ever shown to friends (people you follow who follow you back), and you can set it to Only me. Tap it again to take it back.
- When you're online: while the app is open we note the time you were last in it. Friends (you follow each other) see a green dot on your photo when you're online now; nobody sees the time itself. Our developers see when members were last in the app and how many are online. You can hide the green dot in Settings.
- Mailing list: if you leave your email on the front page without an invite code, we keep it only to tell you when there's a spot (consent). Ask us at eliasjabbie5@gmail.com and we remove it straight away.
- If you're a promoter: events you submit, with your username, so the team can review them.
- If you're on the team: events, places and reviews you add, signed with your username.
Your location
“Near me” is off until you turn it on. When it's on, your phone's location is used on your device only, to sort events by distance and show the blue dot. It is never sent to or stored on our servers. You can turn it off any time, and your browser can block it completely.
Why we use it
- To run the app you asked to use: your account, invites, your map, ratings (GDPR: performance of a contract).
- To personalise For You from your interests, your ratings and what you save to your map (legitimate interest). You can switch this off in Settings under “Recommendations”; For You then only uses time, distance and team picks.
- To keep the app safe and invite-only, and to fix problems (legitimate interest).
- To understand how the app and the magazine are used, as totals, so we can improve them (legitimate interest; see Statistics).
We don't sell your data, we don't show third-party ads, and sponsored events are always labelled.
Statistics
Our developers see totals about how Tessou is used, never a list of what one person did. For example: how many members joined this week, which places and areas are most popular, which types of events and music people pick, and how popular places are with each age range. Any total that splits people by age is hidden when it covers fewer than 5 people, so no one can be singled out. These totals are worked out from what you already do in the app (saves, “I'm going”, ratings, interests, your optional age range and when you were last online).
The magazine (tessou.app/paris) counts visits anonymously: which article was read, what kind of place the reader came from (for example Google, an AI assistant, social media or another website, and that website's name), and whether the reader then joined the waitlist, signed up or logged in. No cookie, no name, no email and no IP address is stored with it. To link a sign-up to the article that led to it, your browser remembers the article and the source in this tab only, until you close it. These anonymous counts are deleted after 25 months.
Who helps us run it
- Supabase: database, sign-in and photo storage. Data region: EU.
- Vercel: hosts the website. Like every web host it handles your IP address and technical logs.
- Google: “Sign in with Google”.
- MapTiler (and OpenFreeMap as a backup): map images and address search. Your browser asks them for map tiles, which shares your IP address and the map area you're looking at, but not your account.
- OpenStreetMap: many place listings (names, addresses, opening hours) come from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Nothing about you is sent to them.
Some of these companies are outside the EU; they use the EU's standard contractual safeguards for data transfers.
Cookies and storage on your device
We only use what the app needs to work: a sign-in session so you stay logged in, and small settings saved on your device (your city, whether “Near me” and the clubs layer are on). On the magazine, your browser remembers which article you came from for this tab only (see Statistics). No advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your login, profile, ratings, saved map, notes and photos are deleted. Events and reviews you published as a team member stay, without your name.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your data: access to the data is limited to the people who need it, passwords are never stored (sign-in goes through Google), and connections to the app are encrypted. No online service can be completely secure, so we can't promise that nothing will ever go wrong. If a data breach is likely to put your rights at risk, we'll tell you and the data protection authority as the law requires.
Your rights
- See and download your data: Settings → “Download my data”.
- Correct it: change your name, username and photo in Settings, or email us (for example to reset your interests).
- Delete it: Settings → “Delete my account”.
- Remove your age range: Settings → “Your age” → “Prefer not to say”.
- Object to personalisation: switch it off under “Recommendations” in Settings.
- Complain: to the data protection authority where you live, e.g. the CNIL in France (cnil.fr) or IMY in Sweden (imy.se).
For anything else, email eliasjabbie5@gmail.com. We answer within one month.
Age
Tessou is about nightlife and is only for people aged 18 or over.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
